Invitation to Participate

You are being invited to participate in a research study. This consent form, a copy of which you can download or print, is only part of the process of informed consent. If you want more details about something mentioned here, or information not included here, feel free to ask the people named above. Please take the time to read this document and any accompanying information carefully. It is very important that you understand:

• what is being asked of you,
• what the risks and benefits of participation are, and
• how the information you provide will be used and stored.

Purpose of the Study

You are invited to participate in a survey evaluating the use of TREKK (Translating Emergency Knowledge for Kids) resources on trekk.ca. Findings will inform future resource development, strengthen impact reporting, and guide strategies to improve TREKK’s website.

Study Procedures

If you decide to take part in the study, you will be asked to complete an online survey through www.trekk.ca -Gravity form-. The survey should take about 2 minutes to complete.

Study Risks

This survey is minimal risk, meaning that the risks are no greater than what you might encounter in your daily life.

Study Benefits

Participants may not experience any direct benefits from taking part in this study. However, their input will help improve the TREKK website and its resources to better meet users’ needs. Participants may also value the opportunity to share their perspectives and contribute to improve resources for others.

Compensation

There is no compensation for this study

Confidentiality

All the information you provide as a participant in this study is confidential which means we as researchers must keep it safe. We will do our best, however, it is not possible to guarantee absolute confidentiality.

Use and Storage of Information

Your information will be stored on a secure platform approved by the University of Manitoba. Data collection tools have been configured to ensure all collected data is completely anonymized, and the research team will only see anonymized responses. This anonymous information may be kept indefinitely for archiving, discovery, and future access.

Data Sharing

All the information you provide as part of this study is confidential. This means that only members of the research team will see your information. For safety, your information will be kept on a UM-approved secure platform.

Any information you share will not identify you. When we share the results of this study, we will combine everybody’s responses, this means no one will see your answers. We may upload anonymized survey and heatmapping results to public platforms, when required by academic journals or funders, we may also use direct quotations to share study findings; these quotes will be reported anonymously.

Results will not be shared directly with participants, as no contact information will be collected (e.g., names or email addresses). However, a summary of the research findings that will be made publicly available on the TREKK website. Participants may access these results at their discretion after the study is completed.

We will do our best to keep your personal information safe. However, it is not possible to guarantee confidentiality.

Dissemination

Findings will be disseminated through peer-reviewed journal publications, academic presentations, and summarized report.

Withdrawing.

Your participation in this research study is voluntary. You can choose to answer only the questions that you are comfortable with. You may withdraw from the study for any reason. However, if you choose to withdraw, you must do so before you submit your responses. You can do this by exiting to the survey pop-up window. You do not have to explain why, and there will be no penalty or impact on your access to TREKK resources. If you withdraw partway through the study, all your responses will be destroyed.  Once you submit your responses, we can’t remove them. This is because we will not be able to link your responses back to you.

This study has been reviewed and approved by a Research Ethics Board at the University of Manitoba. However, this does not mean that participation is risk-free.
