Intestinal infections, also known as gastroenteritis, are extremely common in children. In order to understand more about this problem in children, the Alberta Provincial Pediatric EnTeric Infection TEam (APPETITE) is conducting a study to simplify and improve the way we try to find the causes of vomiting and diarrhea. APPETITE brings together clinicians, scientists and end-user partners who are responsible for provincial decisions related to laboratory testing, program delivery, communicable disease surveillance and vaccine policy.

Led by TREKK content advisor for gastroenteritis, Dr. Stephen Freedman, the APPETITE team is funded by a 5-year, $5 million Collaborative Research & Innovation Opportunities (CRIO) grant from Alberta Innovates-Health Solutions (AI-HS).
