Announcement: New study: Do IV Fluids affect risk of Cerebral Edema in DKA?

Team: News and Events

Date: This is not a timed event.

Description

A new study by Dr. Nathan Kuppermann and the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) will change the standard of practice for the management of pediatric diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). Through a randomized controlled trial across 13 centers, the study found that neither the rate of administration nor the sodium chloride content of IV fluids significantly influenced neurologic outcomes in children with DKA.

Here at TREKK, we are in the process of updating our DKA Bottom Line Recommendations to reflect the results of this new study. Additionally, our DKA Pediatric Pack has been developed in accordance with these results, and is expected to be released this summer.
