Managing pain and distress in children undergoing brief diagnostic and therapeutic procedures

Managing pain and distress is an essential part of health care. A new position statement from the Canadian Paediatric Society provides evidence-based strategies for minimizing children’s pain and distress during common diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and offers guidance for health administrators on developing institutional policy.

Further, the statement references the importance of access to pain management resources, such as our Bottom Line Recommendations for pain treatment and procedural pain:

"Patients, caregivers, & staff should have ready access to educational resources on pain management strategies. Practical, evidence-based summary sheets for procedural pain can be found at www.trekk.ca".
