Developing Educational Tools & Resources

Team Visibility: Public

The needs assessment revealed that emergency healthcare professionals primarily want to receive new information through summary documents and professional development opportunities. As a result, TREKK is creating a suite of instantly accessible, easy-to-use educational tools and sharing them through teaching sessions and conferences.

TREKK Co-Directors Dr. Mona Jabbour and Dr. David Johnson lead the development of the following tools for general emergency healthcare professionals:

  1.  Bottom Line Recommendations - short summaries of the latest knowledge related to the diagnosis and management of pediatric emergency conditions that can be readily accessed by ED staff in time-sensitive situations. In 2015/16 TREKK created 5 new Bottom Line Recommendations (fractures, intussusception, procedural sedation, severe head injury, multisystem trauma) in both English and French and now has created 11 Bottom Line Recommendations in total.
  2. Pediatric podcasts - podcasts have been vetted and posted for public use. Podcasts developed thanks to a successful collaboration with Emergency Medicine Cases include: procedural sedation, seizures, pain management, Diabetes Ketoacidosis, bronchiolitis and Congenital Heart Disease Emergencies
  3. *COMING SOON*: Pediatric Packs (PedsPacs) - a bundle of point-of-care tools to support emergency teams to competently manage a child with certain conditions. A PedsPacs for sepsis will be the fist one available followed by ones for status epilepticus, head injury and DKA.

TREKK Co-Directors, Drs Shannon Scott and Lisa Hartling are developing decision-making tools for parents and families.  Tools are in development for croup, gastroenteritis, procedural pain and otitis media (ear infection). Additional tools can be found on our resouce page for patients and families

All tools will be available on this website once they are fully developed and evaluated.
