TREKK E-update, October 2014

We have created a series of Bottom Line Recommendations for diagnosing and treating pediatric emergency conditions.

Currently available on trekk.ca are recommendations for croup (French & English) and gastroenteritis (French & English).

Stay tuned for summaries on treating pediatric diabetic ketoacidosis, bronchiolitis, sepsis and febrile seizure/febrile status epilepticus.

Article: Oral administration of morphine versus ibuprofen to manage postfracture pain in children: A randomized trial

October 27, 2014 - Published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, this study aimed to determine whether morphine given orally has superior efficacy to ibuprofen in fracture-related pain. Results found no significant difference in analgesic efficacy between oral morphine and ibuprofen. However, morphine was associated with a significantly greater number of adverse effects.
